come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you later."

Foster
Care
Foster
parents temporarily house shelter animals until they are adopted. The
foster parent program serves many purposes. First, time is not on the
side of a shelter animal. By temporarily fostering a dog or cat, volunteers
can give LCAS the time needed to find a good and appropriate home for
the adoptee. Second, not all animals do well in a shelter, particularly
those who have always been in a home. By fostering, much of the stress
the adoptee is facing is alleviated. Additionally, any training that
is provided can help insure the adoptee will always have a good home.
The benefits
of fostering are numerous. Volunteers can help a needy animal greatly
without making a lifetime commitment. While the adoptee is in a foster
home, the animal can be given unconditional, non-judgmental love. A
pet can receive the break it needs and deserves, and foster parents
can see the pure joy on its face and that of its permanent owner when
they discover each other at an adoption. And should a foster parent
decide life just wouldn't be complete without this wonderful pet, the
foster parent may decide to adopt the animal.
